Seasonal icon questions

When should I ship a Christmas app icon?
Put the Christmas icon in an app update that is live by Dec 11, 14 days before Dec 25. An app can only switch to an icon that is already inside the installed version, and store review plus the time people take to update both need slack.
How do alternate app icons work on iOS?
Each seasonal icon is an alternate app icon in your asset catalog. Your app calls UIApplication.shared.setAlternateIconName with the icon's name on the day, and setAlternateIconName(nil) to go back. iOS shows the person a short notice when the icon changes.
How do seasonal icons work on Android?
Each icon is an activity alias in AndroidManifest.xml with its own launcher icon. Your app enables the alias for the holiday and disables the default with PackageManager.setComponentEnabledSetting. Some launchers move or remove the home-screen shortcut when the alias changes.
Can the icon change on the date by itself?
No store switches it for you. Your app checks the date when it runs and switches the icon. The pack's schedule.ics lists each switch-on and switch-back date, and the README has the Swift and Kotlin code.
Which holidays are included?
43 dates across 9 regions: Thanksgiving (Canada), Children’s Day (Brazil), Halloween, Día de Muertos, Diwali, Singles’ Day 11.11, Thanksgiving (US), Black Friday & Cyber Monday, UAE National Day, Hanukkah, Christmas, Boxing Day sales and more. Remembrance days are listed so you can plan around them, but never get a festive icon.
Will the seasonal icon still look like my app?
Yes. You start from the icon you already ship and choose what must not change, such as the character, the shape, your colours or your lettering. You draw one real sample and see it at 60 px before making the rest.
Do seasonal icons include dark, tinted and themed versions?
Yes. Every seasonal icon ships with iOS 18 dark and tinted versions and an Android 13 themed monochrome layer, at no extra cost.
How much does a seasonal pack cost?
1 credit per icon. The first sample is 1 credit and you pay for the rest only once you like it. Downloading the pack is free. Credit packs start at $10 for 100 credits, paid once, with no subscription.
