  1. Make your icon

Describe the app in a sentence, pick a style and choose from three options. Check it in every launcher shape.

  2. Download the pack

The export pack is free with every icon. Unzip it and find the android folder.

  3. Copy into res

Copy the folders in android/res into app/src/main/res, replacing the existing ic_launcher files. New projects already point android:icon and android:roundIcon at them.

  4. Upload to Google Play

In Play Console, use android/play-store-512.png as the app icon on your store listing.

Adaptive icon layers
A 108 dp foreground for Android 8 and later, with the artwork filling the middle 81 dp, so the 72 dp area every launcher shows is always your icon.
Matching background
The background layer is a color sampled from the edge of your icon, so the area around the artwork blends in on any launcher shape.
Legacy and round icons
48 dp ic_launcher and ic_launcher_round PNGs at all five densities, for older Android versions and launchers that ask for a round icon.
Google Play icon
A 512 × 512 PNG for your store listing, as a full square. Google Play applies its own rounded corners.

Frequently asked questions

What is an adaptive icon?
Since Android 8.0, launcher icons are made of a foreground and a background layer, each 108 × 108 dp. Each phone masks them to its own shape, such as a circle or a squircle. Only the middle 72 dp is guaranteed to show, which is why the pack keeps your artwork inside it.
Do I still need the PNG icons?
Yes, for Android 7.1 and older, and for launchers that ignore adaptive icons. The pack includes legacy and round PNGs at mdpi, hdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi and xxxhdpi.
What size is the Google Play icon?
512 × 512 pixels, a PNG of 1024 KB or less, uploaded as a full square. The pack includes it as android/play-store-512.png.
Does it support themed icons?
Not yet. Without a monochrome layer, Android shows your regular icon when themed icons are on.
Can I use Android Studio's Image Asset tool instead?
You can, but you would start from a flat image and adjust the padding yourself. The pack is already laid out for adaptive icons, so you only copy the folders in.
Can I use the icon commercially?
Yes. Icons you generate can be used in personal and commercial apps, including paid apps on Google Play.
