People pick how their home screen looks now. On iOS 18 they can switch every icon to dark or tinted, and on Android 13 and later they can turn on themed icons that follow the wallpaper. An app that only ships one picture gets an automatic conversion that often turns into a muddy square, or keeps a full-color icon in a row of themed ones.
From today, you don't have to think about it.
What changed
Every icon you download from Appicons.ai now comes with its dark, tinted and themed versions. There's nothing to switch on and no extra credit to spend: they're part of the same free export pack as the Xcode and Android sizes.
What's in the zip
| File | What it's for |
|---|---|
| icon-1024-dark.png | iOS 18 dark icon: your subject on a transparent background |
| icon-1024-tinted.png | iOS 18 tinted icon: grayscale, so iOS can apply the user's tint |
| Contents.json | Lists the dark and tinted images, so Xcode picks them up |
| ic_launcher_monochrome.png | Android 13 themed icon layer, at every density |
| ic_launcher.xml | Adaptive icon with the monochrome layer included |
The iOS files sit in ios/AppIcon.appiconset/ and the Android ones in android/res/.
Drag the AppIcon.appiconset into your asset catalog and the res folder into Android Studio, as before. The new versions come along with them. Step-by-step instructions are on the iOS and Android pages.
Preview it before you download
The Check step in the app now has Any, Dark and Tinted buttons on the home-screen preview. Flip between them to see your icon the way an iOS 18 home screen will draw it, next to other apps, at real size. If the dark or tinted version doesn't read well, refine the icon before you export.
Getting the best result
Dark, tinted and themed icons all keep your icon's subject and replace its background, so they work best with one clear subject on a plain background. A full scene from edge to edge has no separate subject to keep. Our guide to dark, tinted and themed icons explains how each platform redraws your icon, and the prompt guide shows how to ask for icons that adapt well.
Make an icon and download the pack to try it. Credit packs start at $10, paid once, and the export pack is always free.
